The DIG Plant Sale may not be until May 8, 2027, but growing thousands of plants doesn’t happen in a few weeks. It starts months ahead — and it starts with propagation.
Right now, Delta Informal Gardeners is in Phase 1 of our Plant Sale growing plan: creating new plants from cuttings.
Phase 1 — 4,000 Cuttings

We have eight propagation work sessions planned this fall, beginning in late September and continuing through November.
Our goal is ambitious: 4,000 cuttings.
That works out to roughly 500 cuttings during each work session.
But 4,000 cuttings doesn’t mean 4,000 plants.
Propagation is a process. Some cuttings will root beautifully, some will struggle, and some simply won’t make it. For planning purposes, we’re estimating that about 50% of our cuttings will successfully develop into plants healthy enough for the Plant Sale.
So the math looks like this:
4,000 cuttings → approximately 2,000 plants 🌱

That’s why these fall propagation sessions are so important. Phase 1 alone is expected to produce about half of the plants we hope to have available at the May Plant Sale.
And there’s more happening than simply making cuttings.
Members are learning how to select good plant material, prepare cuttings, use rooting hormone, place them into growing media and care for them while roots develop. Experienced gardeners work alongside members who may be trying propagation for the first time.
That’s an important part of DIG.
We’re not just growing plants. We’re growing gardeners.

What’s After Phase 1?
Cuttings are only the beginning.
Over the coming months, we’ll move into plant divisions, growing plants from seed, and working with a local growing partner to produce additional plant starts.
We’ll tell those stories as we get there.
For now, we’re concentrating on one thing:
🌿 4,000 cuttings.
🌱 2,000 plants.
🎯 One big goal — the DIG Plant Sale on May 8, 2027.
There’s a lot of growing to do between now and May — and we’ll take you along for the journey.
